Summer, We love you!!!
What has been going on with the Belville gang this summer? What are those boys up to these days? Well, one word describes it all- playing! We are squeezing the most out of every day and loving the freedom that comes with summer. Don't get me wrong, Brax adores school (and I adore the break), but there's something about knowing that every week looks the same that feels a little monotonous. I have loved having Brax home with me every day, enjoying the park with friends, relaxing at the pool (oh wait, there's NO relaxing with two very active and curious children), or just simply hopping on the bikes and playing in the driveway.
I am greeted each morning with the words, "Can I go outside, Mommy?" Right now Brax is very inquisitive and talks nonstop. Most of his talking takes the form of questions, and "Where, Why and What" are at the top of his list of favorite words. Be careful what you say in front of him because he remembers very minute details :) He also knows each and every person by what car they drive. If you happen to be driving someone else's car, this is cause for immediate concern :)
Of course, Brody is just along for the ride. He's sweet and happy, and gives out smiles to every person that he sees. He's rolling and scooting all over the place and I've found him stuck under furniture more times than I can count. I think that we may have a bit more time time before he truly starts crawling. Brax was almost 10 months before he crawled, so I'm hoping that I have at least another month or so before Brody enters that stage on increased mobility. I'm not sure how I'm going to keep up with both of them :) Thankfully, Brody is pretty laid-back and will nap on the go if necessary. Of course, he prefers to nap in his crib, but if he can sneak in a few cat-naps in the morning, then he'll usually be content until we drag ourselves through the door sometime in the afternoon and he can settle in for an uninterrupted afternoon snooze.
This summer has been so much fun so far. We've gotten to spend almost every day with our friends and family. Each day is full of running, playing, jumping and screaming until every last bit of energy has been sapped from their little bodies. We spend most evenings enjoying dinner on the deck and just hanging out with daddy. Bedtime has become more of an idea than an actual time, and Brax falls into bed (or falls asleep on the couch) sometime after the sun goes down. Don't get me wrong, it's crazy and it's busy. That's just the nature of having two little ones. However, I've been enjoying this summer more than any summer that I can recall. Watching the little ones play so hard and truly enjoy each day has been such a reminder to not take life so seriously. I confess that there is a small mountain of clean laundry that has not been folded and I can't recall the last time that I vaccumed the upstairs. But, I don't care. If it comes down to folding laundry, or grilling out with our friends, I'll pick our friends every time. If you ask me if I would rather vaccum or hit the pool with our buddies, you'll find us in our swimsuits in no time flat. I don't feel guilty. That's what summer is about, right??
