Happy 4th of July!

Whew! What a weekend! We were so busy between fireworks displays, grilling out, and pool time, that I'm almost thankful it's pouring rain here today. It's forcing me to stay inside and get some of those necessary "chores" done. But, before I get started on all of the mundane, I thought I would post a mix of pictures from our long weekend.

I have such fond memories of the 4th of July. My family is a family of many traditions. As a child, we celebrated each holiday to the fullest. I can remember getting up early for parades, flea markets and trips to Dunkin Donuts. We always ended the day with a huge cookout before enjoying the fireworks. Because I grew up this way, I thought that we should start celebrating the 4th on Saturday. The Millers joined us and we packed up the boys for a trip to Smyrna.

Brax and Eli were both wide-eyed at the sight of the lights display in the sky. However, after about ten minutes, Brax got bored. I guess you can't ask a ten month old to have that kind of attention span. I thought I would throw this one in to demonstrate Brax's growing affection for Reese. Now that he can get around on his own, he crawls up to her and begs her to play. He pulls her hair, plays with her feet and hits her with his toys. She's very accommodating and has become quite protective of the little guy.
As previously mentioned, we spent quite a bit of time at the pool. Brax enjoys the water- both the baby pool and the big pool. Brax and his older woman, Paisley, enjoyed a little sunbathing during rest period. My very fair child got a little color despite his SPF 50. I refuse to make him wear a shirt :)
We capped off our weekend with a trip to the Millers farm for our own display of fireworks. About sixteen of us (including four babies) gathered around to watch the carefully planned show. Thank you, Josh and Eric, for all of your hard work. They really did a fabulous job of showcasing their pyrotechnic abilities :) Whew! Here's a family photo at the end of a long weekend. We had a lot of fun, but we're all a little tired today.

Brax has fine-tuned his crawling and pulling-up skills. I spend the majority of my day making sure that he isn't eating an unidentifiable object. He has a love for the forbidden things in life like electric cords, picture frames, and the stones from the fireplace. His mobility has made him much less needy, as he can easily reach what catches his eye. However, I find myself more tired at the end of the day from constantly making sure he isn't getting hurt. I love watching him explore each and every little thing in his environment. In addition, FOUR new teeth popped through this week. He now has four on the top and four on the bottom. Of course, with teething he has developed an affinity for biting people. So, we've been over-using the word NO and enforcing other age-appropriate forms of "punishment" :) No biting in this house!! Brax and I are heading to Ohio at the end of the week to visit with my parents and friends. MoMo and Grandpa haven't seen him in two months, so I am sure they'll be surprised at how much he's changed. Well, I'm off to take advantage of the calm and quiet of nap-time! The periods of relative silence are few and far between these days.
